Printers & Printing
In the August 2004 Creating Keepsakes magazine, there was an excellent write-up about printers ...
- They state that traditional photo-lab prints are fade-resistant for about 25 years, using Kodak paper and 60 years using Fuji Crystal Archive paper. Yikes, I didn't realize that!
- It's amazing the difference in printers, paper, and inks. They list an example of an HP printer where the standard HP 57 tri-color cartridge lasts about 18 years and the HP 58 cartridge lasts 73+ years. Could it state that on the box!?!
- They listed following top rated photo printers (years of fade resistance, prices at the time of the article Aug 2004):
Wide-format printers (12 x 12):
Cannon i9900 (25 yrs)
HP DeskJet 9650 (73 yrs ~$399)
Epson Stylus Photo 2200 (100 yrs ~$699)
Standard-size photo printers:
Canon i960 (25 yrs)
HP Photosmart 7960 (73 yrs ~$299)
Epson Stylus Photo R800 (100+ yrs ~$399)
Dedicated 4" x 6" photos:
HP Photosmart 245 (18 yrs)
Canon CP-200 (7.3 yrs)
Epson PictureMate (104 yrs ~$199) | /printer/$file/pmd.jpg)
I'm using the Epson PictureMate Deluxe for quick and easy 4x6 photos. Print from your computer or directly from your memory card. For me, the selling point is buying the paper & ink cartridge in the one package. Very easy to use -- you can crop, select which pictures, and it's portable. |
